Bella Vita Fest will celebrate many aspects of Italian Culture right in the heart of Little Italy. The featured chalk art area will primarily be located on India Street, Little Italy’s main thoroughfare. This will be a ticketed event and will include options for entry only, or entry and wine tastings.

The event hours are 11AM TO 5PM, but you will be able to start chalking earlier. We are still working on this detail as we need time for street cleaning before you begin. We’ll communicate the “chalking begins” time with you a little closer to the event.

 

• Squares provided are 8 feet by 8 feet.

 

• When you fill out your application, please indicate whether you’d like your “sign” to show your name, a team name, or another designation.

 

• We require that you fill the whole square rather than leaving the asphalt as negative space.

 

• No tempera is allowed due to San Diego’s very stringent environmental concerns.

 

• An assorted box of chalk plus black and white chalk will be provided for each artist/team.

 

• Our jury will evaluate applications on level of expertise. Those artists deemed as experts will receive a stipend of $200 paid onsite at the event. We will also provide snacks, beverages, and lunch both days.

 

• A limited number of hotel rooms are available, and expert artists will be prioritized for room assignments. Rooms are for Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21.

 

• Subject matter must be something Italian or Italian/American. Use your imagination—it can be a famous Italian, a replica of a piece of Italian art, a scene of Italy, etc.. We will request details on what you plan to chalk a couple of months prior to the event. So, please apply now, and we’ll follow up on this later.

 

• We will, at a later date, provide complimentary event entry tickets for chalk artists to distribute to your friends and family.
